Putting what I learned from the Public relations classes into practice

Hi again everyone.
This is my second post for my second week in my placement and so far so good. The second week was much more into meetings. The first meeting was to meet with our website company to discuss some things which we want them to include in the website which would help to enhance our website and make some information easily accessible. The other meeting was for our July 31st, event called “Jom Chow Kit”, or “Come to Chow Kit” where we discussed with the other stakeholders like Malaysia AIDS Council, on the type of event, resources of the event and other event related matters. These meetings were a good thing for me because I learnt how to communicate with other people which is one of the PR requirement skills, good communication skills. At this Jom Chow Kit meeting, we agreed that the event should not be a formal thing and we should be much more relaxed as we will be dealing with the most sensitive group of people in the community who are the sex workers. Mind you, this event is to bring together the sex workers in Chow Kit to give them information about HIV/AIDS and other STDs.
Also in this week I was doing the brochure which would be handed to the Sex workers. The brochure contains information on STDs, HIV/AIDS and legal & human rights. The brochure is one of the tactics to our strategy to disseminate information to the targeted audience, something which we have learn in class that when we come up with strategies we should also come up with tactics.
Further, I continued with my duty to use the new media in our organisation, this time around I was following our volunteers in Facebook to join our Facebook page. I was doing this to bring our volunteers together so that when we post something on our page they will all see it and respond to it.
Thanks again

Hey hey Thabang

This i must say is a great opportunity Thabang not only showing your PR skills but also learning how to be professional when it comes to dealing with people. I guess from the meeting you have learnt a lot and from this i can really see that you are into this project which is impressive, a committed PR Officer in the making.heheeh

The new media part its really good for your organization because the message its easily disseminated and this helps in engaging well with the key publics.

All the Best Thabang Edwin-Mosimane wa Kanye.
