Alzheimer's Australia WA

Hi all

My 20 days are over and I will be completing my placement today. In the short time I have been here at Alzheimer's Australia WA I believe I have learnt a lot. Putting practice into real life action helped me obtain a number of skills, which I believe will assist me in my last semester of Uni, as well as my induction into the work force.

Over the 6 weeks of my placement I have undertaken a number of different tasks. One of my favourites would have to be the Dementia Champion Marketing Plan. Ideas which I developed in my Marketing Plan were implemented by the organisation. This was not the only benefit, the feedback I received about my plan was also extremely beneficial. It is not so easy to develop wonderful ideas for an organisation with minimal spending capacity or limited resources and staff, therefor I really had to think strategically on which methods best suited the organisations capabilities.

One of the tasks I was assigned, which was probably the one I was most frightened about, was calling up media in Bunbury for the organisations new office launch. Joel MADE me do it, even though I felt extremely nervous and uncomfortable. All these feelings were diminished after the first call and I continued to call media outlets, managing to attract 2 of the 4 Bunbury media outlets to the launch.

Overall this experience has taught me a lot. My first day here I was thinking of all ways to get out of this internship, however I stuck to it and am happy with my progress. I wish you all the best of luck... I'm now of to a 'Goodbye Morning Tea.'
