Hello World
I was involved with two of the biggest events that CBS hold every year
Firstly the Mid Year Orientation
we had approximately 500 students turn up which was great but when we were only expecting 300 was a little bit overwhelming.
Before the event was even held I was involved with writing the brochure each student got and the invitations that were sent out.
The writing and designing experience was very interesting and brought back the days of PR Techniques back to use.
At the event we all had running sheets and checklists which ensured the day ran smoothly even though we were a little under catered for there were no major problems and was deemed a successful event.
Sunday 8th August was Open Day
Over 70,000 people attended this years Open Day so you can image it takes al ot of effort to organise such an event and to co-ordinate with all of the other faculties and Curtin central.
I was involved in a number of aspects including: designing the lounge area within our marquee
in charge of 15 volunteers where i had to make information packs for each and brief them all on the days activities
co-ordinating 7 lectures and reformatting their presentations to the new Curtin logo
Work with the online editor to produce a video
Collaborating with the 6 schools and other departments to make over 150 name tags and many other jobs that included manual labour
The organising of the evnt before hand was manic but it was nothing compared to the day
I started my day at 8:30 and from then until i finshed at 6pm and longest break i had was 5min when I got to eat some lunch
I had lots of aspects of the day to co-ordinate: make sure my volunteers knew their roles and were confident in them, co-ordinate the lectures and the signage changes, take note of attendences at the lectures and fix some minor problems that arose during the day
The day was very successful and though it was a lot of hard work I'm glad I got to be part of such a great event
Go to the website below to look at some photos of Open Day and the feedback my boss Angela thought of the Dayhttp://blogs.curtin.edu.au/cbs-staff/news/open-day-2010-wrap-up
