The importance of contacts!

Hi everyone!

I just got back from work at Momentum Forum Events and it was another busy day in the office as usual. Last week I told you all how were struggling for sponsors for our Melbourne Cup for Telethon event, well, fear no more, Cue and Vernoika Maine have come on board as our major fashion brand! This is great as we know have a bigger and more secure budget to get on with the rest of our organising.

The biggest lesson from my time today at Momentum is the importance of contacts and networking. Barbara is an excellent networker, never have I seen a person with so many business cards. She seems to know everyone. This has proven to be very beneficial to us and I've already taken advantage of some her contacts! As Barbara socialises with all different people she meets people from all walks of life. One thing that we always try to keep on top of at Momentum is adding these new contacts to our database. Momentum has over 8,000 people on their database and it plays a vital part in keeping their supporters up to date.

She met the Cue and Veronika Maine rep at her daughter's beauty party and they got talking. When I went into the office this morning we already had a confirmation of their involvment and what they would be providing the event with. And who said Sunday's couldn't be productive?

As I mentioned in my earlier post we had some advertisments in the STM this weekend. Therefore we had our media clippings filed and waited to see the after effect of these ads. So far we have had a small response to the ads, with no selling of tickets or tables today for the Pink Ribbon Ball. This had Barbara and I a little frantic, as it felt as if no one was getting back to us. After going through the guestlist and last years papers we realised that we are ahead of schedule in regard to last year; so we felt a little better after that!

What proved to be a negative thing turned out to be quite positive. Because we weren't concentrating on ticket sales we were able focus on other issues that had at times been neglected. We finalised the menu, centre pieces, raffle and auction prizes and our backdrop.

Thing's are really getting into full swing now for the Pink Ribbon Ball and Melbourne Cup for Telethon and I can't wait to see both events on the day.

If anyone is interested in attending and supporting the Cancer Council of WA and Telethon please visit www.momentumwf.com.au for details.

I hope everyone is having a great week :)
