Hi Everyone,
I hope your placements are all going well and you are learning a lot!
This week I will be helping Youth Focus with their “A Night at Colosseum” ball this Saturday night, which is being held in the Grand Ballroom at Burswood. I am really looking forward to being directly involved with the organisation, as all of my previous efforts have been going towards an event that myself and a friend have been organising ourselves separately for Youth Focus.
I am going to the event itself to assist the events department on the night, and am hoping to go into the office during the week to help with the preparation leading up to the event as well.
In addition to this, I am meeting up with a friend who I worked with in a previous internship (events within the Business Icon competition in 2008) this weekend. He has had a lot of experience in events and I hope I will gain insight into successfully preparing for and organising an event.
So far I am finding my placement to be challenging in ways that previous work experience and internships have not been. In this placement the main challenge lies within finding the right direction and being confident enough to run with that direction. Other internships held challenges such as completing tedious tasks, trying to see the bigger picture and finding a balance between not getting in the way and showing enough initiative.
At this stage I still have occasional doubts about how the event will pull through, but at the end of the day any awareness and funds generated on the day is more than Youth Focus would have without the event. I am still excited about what is to come, and am really looking forward to generating promotional material closer to the event. The event webpage for youth focus can be accessed through the following link:

I will blog again after the Ball evening this week! I hope I have a few inspiring things to tell you all about.

Its a show of trust and respect that they're giving you so much to do so be confident with knowing that.
I come from a strong events management background (music type stuff) and can empathise with the overwhelming anxiousness you're probably feeling right now. All I can say is breathe. By Saturday, you've done everything that you possibly can to make the event as awesome as it can be so just relax and enjoy it.
