Change is coming

Despite being at the half way point of my placement, I am still yet to see evidence of panic at Media Panic, despite their tagline reading: “we panic so you don’t have to”.

This “stressed out” image of the company is starting to disappear as we discuss brand repositioning options for the company. The name will remain the same, but I am in the process of creating a new tagline and refined brand identity for the boutique marketing consultancy. Change is coming!

Since my last blog I have finalised the strategic marketing plan, which has been approved by the Director, and in the last few days, I have started to implement the short-term tactics. So far I have submitted new tagline suggestions, written new copy for the website and started to build internal databases. Once the website copy and tagline suggestions are approved I will be able to send the information to the web designer and have them published. Change is coming!

The past week has been nice because I have really felt valued. I was recently asked to advise Media Panic on a strategy they were doing for a high profile client. It was nice to feel that my opinion was sought after and I feel that my comments were taken on board and made a difference to the final report.

One thing I am finding difficult is the time it takes to get feedback from the Director. I have several different projects on the go but can’t progress any further with them until I receive comments or approval from him. Understandably he is very busy, which I have factored into my timeline, but I feel as though at this rate nothing will be fully in place before I leave in ten days, other than the internal projects I am working on. I am reluctant to keep starting new projects because I like to finish things before starting something new.

Perhaps this is one of the main lessons I will take from this placement – how to juggle projects and keep them progressing. I should probably take a hint from the emerging theme of this blog, “change is coming”, and find a way to change my attitude towards project management.

How have you been exposed to the concept of change during your placement?

Until next time, enjoy your placements and DON’T PANIC!

Thanks for your blog post its one I could relate to personally when you talked about the time taken to achieve feedback from your director. Although my immediate supervisor is very contactable, I have find the authorisation process very time consuming and frustrating for a major strategy document I have completed. I think frustrations like these is definitely something we will have to get used to in this field of work. I wish you the best of luck
