My First Blog Post

Hello everyone, I started my internship on the 14th of September 2010 at the Public Relations Department in Limkokwing University (Cyberjaya campus). Limkokwing University is an international University with students coming from all over the world studying in its twelve campuses around the world. Because of its global existence the University has put in place a very efficient and excellent public relations department in place to handle all their communication with their publics and I am proud to be part of their team.

During my first few days here, I was introduced to one of the CSR projects running and soon I became part of it as it one of our responsibilities. Currently the University is raising awareness through their “Heal the World” campaign which is a peace initiative created to inspire and give back to the less fortunate. This is the third time that the Limkokwing University’s Heal the World Foundation is raising awareness in conjunction with UNICEF to raise funds for the victims of the Pakistan floods.

One of the tasks I am expected to do every day is to read newspapers and collect any article that is about Limkokwing (our organization) and make media clippings as part of our media monitoring exercise. These clippings are then kept for future references and the rest are given out to the different heads of departments in the school so that they read and are aware of what the media or public has to say about our organisation. This is one of the things I learnt in class and it is now relevant to me as I can now apply and understand the purpose of collecting media clippings.

So far, I have been involved in organising and attending two events on behalf of our department. The first event which was held on the 24th of September being the pre-publicity event for MAYA 2010 and the German Cultural Week from 28th to the 1st of October.

Keep watching the space as there are more things to come.
