my first press release

Hi everyone, as it is my first post, i will talk a little bit about my work placement.

I did my internship in one of the biggest shopping mall in Mauritius as i thought it would be very interesting to learn about event management. Indeed, during my internship I have participated in the organisation of four different events, including one event which i organised all by myself. This will be the subject of my next post ;-)

I would like to share with you my first experience in writing a press release, for real!

Let me first put you in the context:

I started my internship half-way through the Motor Show 2010 event, happening in the shopping mall. Car dealership were invited to expose their most beautiful and recent cars, giving the customers the opportunity to benefit from promotions. Each week, the shopping mall would welcome different car dealership.

Therefore my press release aimed at making the public aware of the next car dealership that would be present in the next-coming week, the brands it would represent and convince them why they should come.

It was very stressful as i had to do all the research by myself, asking questions to strangers, and i was not sure about the format, about my writing style.... i went through a big phase of lack of confidence, which fortunately did not last very long, and my press release was approved by my boss. :-)

However, i was asked a week later, to rewrite the press release as my boss did not send the press release on the same day to the different media outlet, therefore all the information were wrong and no more credible. I was very upset at first but i guess i learned something out of it.
