Hello All
Last week saw me, along with my Miami Bakehouse boss and colleague head down to the launch of Peel Tourism's TV advertising campaign at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre. It was a pretty exiting and interesting day as I got to rub shoulders with important people including the town mayor and also Brownlow medallist and now Tourism WA CEO Graham Moss. It was also a great chance to see how you can make a TV ad on a tight budget and how forming relationships with your neighbouring businesses can be really beneficial.
The ad campaign is the first of its kind for the peel region and was actually funded by local businesses with the government providing no contribution. Earlier in the year saw the Mandurah train line closed for three consecutive weekends, with Mainroads failing to have any consultation with local businesses. After a long hard fought battle with Mainroads eventually Miami Bakehouse and the other businesses were awarded a compensation payout. Instead of simply divided the money up the business owners decided that the best thing for this money would be to combine it for the benefit of the whole region, with the group deciding on a TV ad campaign being the best approach.
The ad campaign also goes further then simply showing a series of ads on TV, with a call to action attached where the viewer is told that they can win a holiday if they visit the website. To be honest I have never really thought of the benefits of having a prize any more than just increasing interest. But the prize and the subsequent website also act as a way to evaluate the success of the campaign, with hits to the website, and competition entries able to get monitored and also ages, locations and sexes of the people who enter the competition recorded for analysis and future use.
So the prize is a really good way to evaluate the success of the campaign. As someone pointed out, with the prize we get a figure of how many people enter the draw, this figure we can then present to the Mandurah Council, and the like to show the success of the campaign and as a result help secure funding for future projects. People are much happier to put money towards something if they can see that it has been successful in the past. So if you could enter the competition with as many emails as you have that would be really great, website is http://www.mandurahandpeel.com/ :)
Well that’s about it for me, summing up it was a really good day, except for an awkward moment where I bumped into a woman who didn’t give me a job a few months back, said she'd call me, never got a call, slightly awkward.
Thanks for reading, the ad is know on TV so keep an eye out for it.
