Sunset Events - Chapter Four: The End

So I can hardly believe it, but it’s the end. That isn’t to say I’ll stop contributing at Sunset Events, in fact I’m working backstage at Stereosonic on the 28th. But it does mean I can look forward to something I’ve not seen in months, free time.
And what did I learn? Well in terms of preparing media material in the real world… nothing really. I’m still running on my knowledge from Curtin University. But in terms of organising and managing an event, media monitoring, practical office tasks, stakeholder relations and liaising with tour parties, artists, promoters, and folks from the labels, I learned plenty.
I see this as the upside because I feel prepared for writing a media release if need be thanks to my education at Curtin, but what scared me were all of these tasks which you never really understand until you perform them in the real world. My time at Sunset had its ups and downs, and like many other students I became frustrated with members of the team once or twice. But all in all I’ve accomplished what I set out to, I jumped into the deep end of events management and came out alive.
If there are a few key lessons I can take away from my experiences it’s that media monitoring never ends, running an event is all about the detail, no one can run an event alone, and thanks to a team that have learned to rely on one another, no one at Sunset Events has to.
