Lebo Moitoi LUCT.......FRESHMAN….!!!!!!!!!

Hello everyone my name is Lebogang Sade Moitoi and I’m doing my internship at Mongoose Publishing. This is my third week as an intern and it has sure been a ‘wow’ and an ‘Oh gosh’ moment. From waking up at 5:30am every morning to just being an intern and arriving home at 9m..its a job and a half!

My first day was not so good because when I arrived my supervisor was out for a meeting so I didn’t know what to do or who to talk to as everyone was glued to their screens and so busy, so I didn’t want to be the annoying intern.

I was finally given a task for the day, and Lord was I not grateful that I finally had something rather than just sitting and waiting, but little did I know that it was going be hell. I was asked to do listings for all the restaurants and hotels in Malaysia. Sounds simple yah…? But hell no it is not. Calling companies was the frustrating part because others didn’t speak English and so it was hard to actually get information from them. Others were fascinated by my foreign name, the minute I said, “good morning, my name is Lebo from Mongoose publishing” then they would go, what? what did u say your name was again?, for 5 minutes they will be trying to pronounce my name and they never succeed so they always shifted from the conversation to try and pronounce my name again and again. By the time it was 5.30 I wanted nothing but to go home and sleep but I had not completed my task .so for the first week I had to do listings.

My second week was rather a more productive one as a was asked to write an article about Putrajaya then asked to du a spreadsheet for all the holidays in 2011.I was then asked to proof read the Arrivals and Expatriates mags which are due for print this week. More than 250 pages.oh God. !But It was very insightful. We also did research on the Expatriates in Malaysia and the different associations that they are part of.

Understand that my company is a publishing company mags are getting ready to go for print for 2011 publications so it’s busy at the moment. People here are communicators, all of them and yes there are those who are not a pleasure to work with but others are an honor, for I learn a lot from them every day and they actually take time to teach us.

This is just an update to let u guys know where I am placed. My next post will detail all that I’m assigned to do and about Mongoose PR.oh yah check out the expatriate Lifestyle website and there are also great prizes to be worn there.try your luck, you may never know.

I believe as interns we have to be ready for anything and listings just happens to be one of the things. But with time i guess you'll get used to it and the waking up early and get along with your colleagues. Its very important to work in an environment where you feel comfortable, not relaxed though. I Really hope you will learn a lot as PR can be stressing with all the spreadsheets (where no mistakes are allowed) of media events, media list and all that :).
