There are reasons to why most of us chose to intern in particular organisations, well yes, to some and no to some but as for me it was about my passion, the environment and most of all what i would learn beyond my internship objectives. Am an intern at PTFOUNDATION under the Advocacy department; currently working on Malaysia's first widely broadcast campaign on HIV-AIDS! I think most of you that travel to and from work on the Rapid Kl, and those that have ASTRO have seen the campaign; well thats what am all about right now. If you have seen it then you know PTF made it possible for you to see that. Many of you know Malaysia's media and government and people are conservative some thing are not easily said, for the past 3 years you might have never seen anything on HIV -AIDS and now you do! AIDSAware be the message!
This is my first blog ever since i joined the reflective blog and there seems to be a dozen things that come to my mind about what to blog about. well the first thing i got to learn from the day i went for an interview to the time i started my internship was about courtesy! In my own definition COURTESY IS THE HALLMARK OF SUCCESS, many people have achieved a lot; but come to think of it; what is success without courtesy? mmm... In a few words there is a lot that can be achieved with courtesy and maybe one could also twist a few words but fall into the right pit to say "politeness and consideration are the hallmark of civilization", a lot can be achieved with a smile as a public relations person. Yes! A smile goes a long way in public relations and a frown could be a scar to the organisation or you in the industry now i go back to COURTESY!
My first day was quite an experience, had many faces smiling at me and at that point i felt welcome, i felt at home and at heart in the organisation. My manager at that time was attending a workshop, ACON but the people around me made it easy to work without the manager around. I made the most out of the day, i went through the company websites, social-networks and many other to familiarize myself with the environment and the people.
Well the first day seemed to be more about the courtesy and the environment, like i said before courtesy is the hallmark of success, my success is based on my experience with PTFOUNDATION and their courtesy and mine too, its a two way thing here.
Well for now till the next time i might have to leave you with a few words " a lot can be accomplished by a smile and good manners than with a PHD or a fat wallet"
