I have finished my internship on 28th February. During the internship, I was involved in interesting events organised by the Haveeru Media Group and others. One remarkable event was Haveeru Inter-department Futsal Competition 2011 that took place on February 18 to 25. Four teams played from four department of HMG, which were PR/Marketing, Admin, Newsroom and Print.
Before write about the futsal competition, I want to share some of internal problem of HMG.
Firstly, I noticed HMG has not enough staff motivation programs or activities. Some of staffs said to me they are not like to work there. Lack of staff relations with the management, lack of department coordination is major internal problem of HMG.
As we all know one of the most important roles of public relations practitioners or public relations technician is build good relations among staffs and with the management. Without having good relations with the staff, business will not be success.
After started futsal competition, I observed HMD staffs got relief and strong the relations with the management. So this kind of sports events strength staff relation.
Here blow are some of the benefit gained from futsal competition.
1. Good opportunity to make friendship with new staffs and other department staffs.
2. Increase staff motivation and relations.
3. Increase the performance and output of staffs.
Haveeru Inter-department futsal comptetion was a great public relations event.

Your post about internal relations clearly shows that communication is the best tool in all organisations for all the different departments and all levels. And it also shows that other means can also be done in order to keep employees happy. One thing that I have since realised when doing my placement is that employees want to appreciate and to be noticed that is why they usually respond positively and very well to activities which involve them. So I personally think that by organising the tournament, your Public Relations unit was merely fixing or making better the internal problems that they were having, which turned out to be a good call! :)
I have noted the same thing. During the internship, I noticed that while employees in any particular section got along very well with one another, they were not so friendly with employees from different sections.
There is a definite friction sometimes between sections, a bad natured rivalry, so that even employees who are just joining the section soon begins to act the same way.
I also think activities outside of work that brings employees together in enjoyable activities would do a great deal to settle such differences.
