Week Four - Transcribing is harder than it looks!!

Hello again all! I'm in my fouth week, and nearly 2/3rds of the way through my prac! How the time has flown! I have really been enjoying myself! They haven't had a lot of work for me this week, so I started on my report :) I thought I'd get it started while it's all fresh in my brain; and plus, if i have any queries, I can just ask Georgina, who is the Media girl (and sits at the desk next to me!). I tried my hand at transcribing today, and it was very difficult!! The technology they use is really quite cool - you wear headphones and play the audio , there's this pedal underneath the desk, the left panel is rewind, the top is fat forward, and the right panel is play/pause. I transcribed a 12 minute speech (took me longer than 12 minutes, I can tell you!). It was really fun as I was getting the hang of the pedal, the faster typing and the whole typing simultaneously to audio playing. Good fun! Met one of Julie's Canberra staffmembers, Sam. He's her Foreign Policy advisor, and he did the same degree as I am currently doing and he offered to chat about my degree any time if I ever wanted to! It was heartening to meet someone with an interesting job who has done my degree :) In other news, I heard back from DFAT about my Grad program application - no :( But I'm not disheartened about it at all! I sent in 2 more applications for Government departments this week, so all is not lost! I applied for Department of Defence and Resources, Energy and Tourism (RET). Fingers crossed! It's hard to think of jobs and next year right now when I'm so busy with other things, but I think I have a good hand on things :) Hope to post again soon! Anna xx
