Answering the Phone...luct

i have never answered the phone as much as i had to during my internship at Botswana Police Service.at first i did not want to but i was put in positions where i had no choice bu to pick up the phone and say "thank you for calling Botswana Police Public Relations Unit. Mbanga speaking, how may i help you?" just saying this line took me days to muster as i had to say it fast.Unfortunately in this world there are still some who do not have basic manners of answering the phone so this was a practical learning experience for me,and it really helped me to build my level of tolerance,as some people will call then hang up,some will call and then keep you waiting while they are busy talking with others on the other end.

Studies have shown that many companies lose clients and future partners because of lack of phone etiquetteI learnt the below mentioned steps of answering the phone :
1.Identify yourself immeditely so the caller knows who you are and if they have the right person
2.if they calling someone else, nicely transfer them or take down their information and notify the right person
3.never ignore a call or speak rudely it might cost you your job.

Remember the voice on the phone is the first impression of the company so practice courtesy.

i can relate, as i was working for an events management company too, one of the things that they usually emphasized was good communication and first impression on the hone because who ever might be calling might know right away if the company is good or not..
