Coming to the end of my internship now and I have learnt a lot about not only public relations but also communicating with people in the business world- very different to communicating with people in my day to day retail job.
Having completed tasks such as a 3 year internal operations plan, helping compile a database for the organisation, media kits etc I have learnt that having a well established structure and leadership roles is paramount for getting things done as soon and as well as possible.
My internship took place at a volunteer organisation called Colosoul Magazine which has no paid staff although it is something they are working towards. The CEO is very passionate about her organisation and has a great vision but there needs to be more structure and leadership roles established to ensure that the organisation meets its full potential and is able to grow and develop in the future into a stable and thriving not for profit organisation

I've been reading some of your previous posts, sounds like you had crazy ride at Colosoul. You really showed me how different it is working for a volunteer based organisation and really demonstrates how important communication is. I have been working at a Networking firm based in South Perth. They run social to corporate events for a number of clients. However, the majority of tasks that I did included social media monitoring and media contact monitoring. Alot of tedious and long days but things didnt start to pick up til the end when I started asking for more jobs. Some of the projects your worked on seemed really interesting and definitely something to make use of in the future. I completely agree with getting things done effectively and efficiently, I found that I was a huge multi - tasker whilst working at Via Appia. I feel that even though I worked at a place where staff are paid, there was a drive missing there. If they too showed more leadership and organisation they could really reach their full potential. From reading a number of posts, I think that I will try and find some experience at a not - for profit organisation because it seems like its a worth while experience and have to take on not only stress but a number of tasks too.
