We cannot deny the fact that effective internal communication is vital to any organisation. Change is often the only constant in today’s workplace. Change management programs often fail because of poor communication. Consultation and dialogue motivate employees through giving them a sense of ‘ownership’ of initiatives and strategies. Good communication also helps prevent damaging rumours. When there is an information vacuum and a lack of communication that employee relation is at stake.
Employees are an organisation’s best possible ‘goodwill ambassadors’. Today, knowledge is often a company’s biggest asset. For instance, when key employees leave, that knowledge could be lost. Service and quality are more important than ever. The company is thus both dependent on loyal and motivated employees. PR should act as an advocate or representative of employee interests as well as a disseminator of management messages. True Public Relations is based on dialogue. This means a willingness to listen and change policies/practices when appropriate. The Excellence Study (Dozier, Grunig and Grunig 1995) found that a participatory corporate culture was a key predictor of excellent public relations.
At Sedeco, internal communication is a key component. When I started my internship, I wasn’t really at ease with the employees of other departments. The Job Fair enabled me to break this barrier and move towards them. Each and every employee was keen at participating, voicing out their opinion and suggestion on how to make the Job Fair a success. Indeed, it was since as I said earlier if an employee is happy with his work conditions, he will advocate and encourage others to join in. As a result, internal communication plays a major role since the primary publics need to feel “valued”. A satisfied employee makes a good ambassador, don't you agree ?

yes I totally agree with your point.Internal Communication is one important thing within a company.Being informed about what is going on and feeling concerned can motivate an employee and help him feeling important at work.Communication between management and other employees is crucial and helps reducing a lot of issues as you mentioned.For my part,I'm quite happy about internal communication at my company.Everyone received mails about every little thing happening and it helped us to keep an eye even if it did not apply to us.I also agree when you say PR should act as an advocate of employees interests because PR does not only apply for media purposes but it also starts internally.

I agree with you and Loveleen about the importance of effective communication within the organisation.The effective communication within the organisation gives the employees moral to do their work to get internal information through all communication channels that can suit the organisation.The internal staff within the organisation come first before the external public as there are the face of the company to to this external public's.Organisations should practice effective communication within thier organisation ad not focus on profit gained while leaving important people outside.
interesting topic, my is that internal communication is most valuable when handling the media during a crisis(Perfect response at the right time)
As some may remember I did my internship at princess marina hospital public relations department and 1 important thing I learnt was after the hospital was hit by a crisis when industrial class workers went on a strike demanding salary bonuses. This group involved cleaners, drivers and cooks so as these people are out of duty the pr department had to find a quick plan to ensure that the admitted patients are attended to on time as they have to be fed..so an emergency meeting was called to involve the management team and representatives from BOFEPUSO(a national public service employees union) to resolve the situation which the immediate response was to address the employees on the decisions that will be taken towards the refunds and make sure that the employees get back to their workstations without ruining the daily schedule. Controlling the information flow internally meant that what goes externally to the media will not harm the organization as what I saw, the evening news reported the strike situation in marina as a solved issue, and the pr department was happy to have made a big issue seem so little on the outside.

not long ago i had to write a peace on this and i have to say you took the words right out of my mouth. where i did my internship the one thing i think kept us all from going crazy was good employee relation or in other words communication. so from what i have experience personally i totally agree with you.

Hey Danitza, what i have found out is that even though internal communication is very vital in any organization, whether big or small most organization don't considered their employees as important publics to please. The don't understand the power that employees possesses. I had a terrible internship, and most of the problem was called by not being well informed. For example my colleague and I will be told to come with solution to the company problems but the managerial team will not give us the whole facts about the problem. It really drained the motivation and creativity from me because I knew that we were kept in the dark. so i totally agree with you when you say, internal communication is important.

Internal Communication is very important especially within a company . As an employee being updated about what is going on in the company makes you feel that you are part of the company thus improving employee loyalty. Also communication among the company also helps to avoid office politics which can even affect productivity in the workplace. In my part, internal communication helped me to realize that in a company set up, everybody should be treated the same regardless of whether you are an intern or you are a full time employee. PR is very important in that case.
