Perth….. 2 hours and 5 years behind!
Ok so don’t jump down my throat about my title! I am a very proud Melbourne turned Perth resident! This is a saying I have been paid out with for most my life as most my family resides in Melbourne. Let’s face it is pretty accurate, but I am not here to start a debate just pointing out how behind Perth is when it comes to selling Incentive Events.
For those of you who are not familiar with my blogs, my placement is at the Esplanade Hotels Group. During my placement (I am up to day 18) the hotel had had two major title changes:
1) New Sales and Marketing Manager
2) New Corporate Development Officer

Both of these ladies have past backgrounds in tourism, this is important to the hotel group as both of its hotels are not your typical 4 star hotel location (Fremantle and South Perth). When selling the hotel, it is also selling the local business surrounding. Our new corporate development officer has a lot of national and international experience and is working on introducing incentives. Incentives are themed packaged events. This involves dealing with copious amount of internal department and external contactors.
Incentives are going to be a HUGE CHALLENGE to sell as it is expensive, time consuming and a fairly new concept to Perth. One of the Banquet Sales Managers is from New Zealand and has worked in Queensland and upon her journey to Perth she was shocked at the lack of incentive events being held at any hotel. She told me “every week there would be an incentive event”.
Before the Esplanade could sell to clients, the Sales and Marketing Team has to sell if to the various departments within the hotel (STAKEHOLDER COMMUNITCATION!!!). Getting the departments (especially Banquet Sales) on board was very important as they would be the ones putting in the extra work to sell the events.
Above is pictures from the staff meeting which of course was incentive themed, which was sounds of the sea, which included a massive backdrop, sound, lighting, actors, and sea food.
