Hi everyone,
I am Anicksha Boolell from Charles Telfair Institute, Mauritius. Well this is my very first post. I must admit that it took me quite some time to write on my blog for the simple reason that I had a very hectic schedule while being at Sun Resorts. To be honest, I have had such an exciting and enriching experience during the time spent there and indeed very lucky to have obtained a placement in such a prestigious hotel group. It's been so full on! I can't say about the other interns but I have been very fortunate with my superiors as well as with my two colleagues, Kavi and Jessica. They have given me the best intern experience ever. In addition to this, I have been given many responsibilities in the Marketing and PR department of the company. I was treated more like a full-fledged employee than as a student. This really boost up my enthusiasm and motivation to deliver even more.
Why Sun Resorts??? Sun Resorts Ltd is a major Mauritian hotel group in the Indian Ocean that currently owns and manages four resorts in Mauritius namely Le Touessrock, a 5 * luxury resort and a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, La Pirogue Hotel, Sugar Beach Hotel and its latest resort, Long Beach on the eastern coast of the island, and The Kanuhura in Maldives. Obtaining a placement in such a big group will not only enhance my knowledge in the PR and Tourism field but also provide me with the opportunity to deal with professionals of the field as well as with renowned hoteliers. Another reason for choosing Sun Resorts is that Tourism and Events Management are one of my majors and PR in the tourism/hotel industry is definitely a career option I would choose as well as a field in which I would love to get into once my BCom completed.
So bloggers, as this is my first post I will keep you updated about my work experience as well as challenges I have encountered during my placement. For now, I can only say that I have gained a vast understanding of how PR works in real life; what it takes to be a real and good PR practitioner. Furthermore, it is good to add that it is definitely not the same PR that we have learnt on the benches of university. It is far more complicated and demanding...and challenging!
So here goes my first blog! Wait for the next one to learn about the forthcoming Blue Penny Exhibition and The Marlin World Cup 2012... Until then...
