First blog - Fremantle Dockers PR Placement

Hi everyone, my name is Porscha Turco and I am currently doing my unit for the PR placement as this is my final semester. I as lucky enough to get a placement at the Fremantle Dockers Football Club, so I was really excited when they offered me the placement.

As I am very interested in sports public relations, I am so happy to gain a placement within an AFL club as i love football and it is definitely a field I want to get into when I start in the workforce next year. So far I have worked at the last two home games that the Dockers have has against Collingwood and Carlton. My roles at the game were to talk to corporate clients and this is where I really needed my PR hat on because this was a great opportunity to network and really promote the Dockers through word of mouth. I also helped out with setting up the dining rooms and corporate room for clients, which enabled me to do some event planning, which was great.

I have also been helping our with the Corporate Raffle, doing write-ups about it and helping sell the raffle. Other jobs I have done are help to write the online e-newsletter which has been great in terms of us9ng my PR writing skills and knowledge and I have also helped write he Corporate survey as well. Another event I helped prepare and organize was the Corporate Movie Night that the Corporate sales team have at the Dockers, this is a night where all corporate clients get together to watch a movie and mingle. This event was great for networking but also great because i got to help out and prepare the event.

So far I am really enjoying my experience at the Fremantle Dockers and I cant ai to see what else I get to do in the future.

Hi Porscha,

Glad to hear your placement is somewhere you really enjoy working for. I have worked with some of the girls at Fremantle via the Asthma Foundation in a campaign we had running this season. They're all really friendly there! I must say, I'm a little envious of your placement because I love footy as well, and sports PR would be an area i'd definitely venture into. I look forward to tracking your progress. Good luck with the rest of it :)
