Vanity Fair, Darrrlings

Hello again everyone!

Exciting developments have taken place at Breast Cancer Care WA (BCCWA) this week! Finally, we are able to properly announce our vintage clothing market to the wider world! Vanity Fair, the BCCWA's inaugural Vintage and Designer Market, is taking place on Sunday 11th, September and is one unique event not to be missed by fashion lovers, creative thinkers and those who treasure all things classy and quirky!

I was FINALLY able to approve the event artwork this week, after fussing over and editing it for the last two weeks! I'm pretty proud of it, as my good friend was commissioned to draw the image and I put the rest of it together myself in the Microsoft Office Suite! Being able to flex my creative muscles for the first time in a while felt really good, and being able to look at the final product and say, "Yeah, I did that" is amazing!

Shortly, it will be plastered on notice boards across every university campus, and placed in local papers, cafe's and other business and media outlets. So get used to seeing it guys! Focus has now shifted to the promotion of the event as it is sneaking up on us quite quickly!

However, the logistics involved in this event are still proving difficult and time consuming to complete. I've made a lot of phonecalls trying to source more garment racks for the display of clothing on the day, as well as trying to obtain a free truck for 'hire' to move all the gear from our storage space to the venue and back again! Bureaucracy is so frustrating at times. Working in the not-for-profit sector would be far less challenging if more organisations empowered their front-line employees to make business decisions, so that every enquiry does not have to be run by the manager, owner or head office first! Simple things are often the most elusive.

Aaaanyway, I also learnt a quick lesson in DIY the other day, by having to assemble 25 garment racks in the storage space so that our clothing can begin to be sorted into categories and hung neatly. Making sense of the chaos was rather theraputic, until one of the garment racks holding about 15 leather jackets decided to fall on top of me! I ended up sprawled spread-eagle across the floor, underneath these incredibly heavy jackets and covered in dust. What's more, in the process of falling my toe had somehow acquired a nasty cut that proceeded to gush blood everywhere. After some MacGyver-like first aid (using a shopping receipt as a temporary bandage), I continued for another two hours before deciding that if I assembled one more garment rack, I may just quietly go insane.

And so continue the preparations for Vanity Fair and my activites at BCCWA. I won't bore you further with the more minor details of my days. Exciting times ahead!

Until next time.
