Hi all!
It's been a while since my last confession - I mean blog post (ha ha). There's not all that much to report since I last posted on here. Basically we're still at the stage of trying to work with the artists in helping them to secure spaces for the installation of their concepts or works. We're almost there, but there are some who are unwilling to compromise in certain areas and this is making things extremely difficult.
We should be officially releasing the website soon - it's nearly done - so watch this space and also look out for some guerilla style media tactics if you're going to be out and about in the city in the coming weeks!
I'm currently liaising with five artists on their ideas and have also been working on possible art driven ways that I can get the two local primary schools - Sacred Heart and Highgate - involved in this years festival. This is something I will also be project managing and so far I've let the inner child in me run wild! I've come up with an idea involving umbrellas, sofas, curtains and even toilets. A lot of my inspiration has been coming from Canberra's Floriade - I would love to be able to do something like this (see below) with the kids, but unfortunately the schools have a limited budget and I'm not too cluey when it comes to lighting!
I'm also working on drafting up a letter to Bunnings, to see if they would formally like to come on board and help the artists (and us) out with materials, chairs - anything and everything basically.
We still haven't got any word on whether more funding has been approved, so at the moment we are working with the world's smallest budget I would think! I've also made a start on my report - which is proving harder to write than I thought it would be. Hows everyone else going/not going with theirs?
Anyways, hopefully I'll have some juicy juicy gossip when I next post!

I'm loving the name haha. That photo is such an awesome idea- such a shame about the budget. I'm trying to think of ideas but it's a tricky one. I'm sure you'll come up with something fantastic soon. It sounds like a great placement and as for the reports- I'm sure we'll all be in struggle town until we get them finished. It's quite an interesting process though. I wish you luck!

Sounds like you're having a blast with your placement, It's great that you have the chance of let your creativity run wild and actually have say on important things in relation to your event.
I know how you feel on the 'unwilling to compromise' front. Sometimes key stakeholders can be difficult to satisfy, especially with large events that have many different stakeholders with many different wants and needs. I hope you somehow manage to strike a satisfying compromise for all parties involved - use your negotiation skills and charm perhaps ;) hehe
It is exciting that your website will be launching soon, especially with the relationship between the rise of digital media and organisational awareness becoming blatantly important.
Good luck with your pitch to Bunnings! Time to put your consultancy experience to the test. I wonder what angle you are trying to sell them on "this is good for your image", "help support a good cause and generate more business" etc...?
I look forward to hearing more about your internship, and of course good luck for the actual festival when it does arrive!
