Getting Started-Media List & English Personified

My first week at work I  disciplined  my self to respect time so as to to establish trust with my bosses and all went accordingly that I was given big projects to work on. Mind you the company that I worked with specialized in events and centered more on marketing so I was given full control of the Public Relations desk.

I have come to know that in Public Relations the first thing that you need to know is being a quick and critical thinker.The first thing I had to do was coming up with a media list of all the media in Malaysia from print to electronic media and this was the most hurdle I faced because some media companies had most of their information in their national language Bahasa Malay. It took me a week to have full list of the media list and I was so impressed as I met the deadline.

This has been the best experience for me as I also had to play my part in the English Personified proposal which we worked closely with the government and media representatives. Everyday people knocked at our office  for meetings and discussing about  progress on the ongoing projects and held hands with many people. My experience has been fantastic and I learnt that time management is essential for everyone to get businesses going.

In PR there is what is called prose writing which simply  implies ordinary and simple writing and I was taught not to decorate articles but my bosses expected to write media releases in the way that it shows too much fabrication and I kept it that way because that was what was expected of me.

What i'm trying to share with with you all is that being a quick thinker and respecting deadlines is vital not only in the field of Public Relations but also in every challenge one undertake in life.And also we must know that what we learn from Public Relations is just the fundamentals and we should be flexible to accomodate the demands of the work place.
