My first dip in the professional world of PR - Imagine Communication Placement

Hello everyone,

This is my very first post since the start of PR393, and I would like to apologise for the delay. It has been quite an eventful semester, with a more than hefty schedule, juggling many things at a time. Despite all the tasks assigned to me, be it at Imagine Communication, or at school, I must say I have been able to cope, and I found myself getting better at time management, something I previously believed to be a myth! :)

Imagine Communication -

Its professional footprint is now a recognized brand promoting commitment, professionalism and credibility in the fields of media relations, public relations and public affairs.

First ever full fledged PR and Communication agency to operate as such in Mauritius and the region, Imagine Communication is recognized as a major player of the industry, with the aim is to provide clients with strategic PR consultancy and services that make a difference, thus providing their interests with a leading edge and ensuring a measurable impact on their businesses.

My placement experience -

I've been at Imagine for more than a month and I still get some tasks assigned to me, despite finishing the placement (I will be telling you more about it in my next post). During the month or so as a PR trainee, I have been able to put all my academic experience to practice. The placement has also been a very enriching experience, that helped me to master the technique of team work, and to take decisions. Yes decisions, and trust me when i say that it's not like we got a week to ponder on something and then make a decision, or a 2-3 weeks until deadlines. At work, we have to take decisions on the minute and meeting deadlines on the hour or if we get lucky, at the end of the day.

But it hasn't always been so tense, there were days where I would handle the daily tasks of media monitoring and media summaries.

My very first task during my placement, was to take photos for the new Imagine Website, that was unveiled during the 20th anniversary of the company, where again, i've had to take photos of the event. During the event I seized the opportunity to bond with the Imagine 'crew', and strengthen my networking with the number of major PR practitioners and other 'communication people'.

My next post will give us a more insightful angle of what I've been up to at Imagine, tasks assigned, and dealing with clients (local and international). Until then, I wish you all good things in life and PR & Comm.

Peace.

Hi Naresh,

Good to hear that you enjoyed your days at Imagine Communication as much as I did at Sun Resorts Ltd. Both our internships were so full on that we hardly realised how time flew by...especially with the heavy workload of assignments at uni! I wish to add that real life experience totally differs from our usual lectures at uni but the good thing about it is how we put all our PR knowledge into practice.

This I think is the most interesting part especially when you are left on your own to complete some assigned tasks by your superiors and that too within deadlines! Oh well, welcome to the corporate world...

I guess you will have loads to tell us about the tasks you have been assigned with at Imagine as there is definitely no dearth of work in such a big PR agency...

Keep me updated about your work dear.

Cheers.

Hello Naresh,

This is really nice of you to keep us posted about your experience at Imagine Communication.

Experience is a must nowadays. It is good to note that you had a good experience and could put you academic knowledge into practice.

I totally agree with Anicksha that work experience differs a lot from our assigned tasks at university.

Networking in PR is extremely important and it is nice to hear that you took advanatage of the actual event to build on your network in the PR field.

Like you, I have also taken some photos but mine was for the monthly newsletter of Amnesty, the DIME.

Looking forward for a greater insight of your work placement.

Hey Naresh,
Nice to hear that you've enjoyed your internship at Imagine Communication. While reading your post, I must say that your internship somewhat differs from mine but still it is as interesting as mine and provides you with much hands-on PR experience while allowing you to put into practice what you have learnt at uni. I find this really insightful.

And as Darla said, Networking is really really important in PR field. I also had the opportunity to do some networking while attending events which were organised by the Ministry of Education and Human Resources.

Looking forward for your next blog.

Cheers,
