First event success!

Last night was the opening event for the Perth Centre for Photography new premises. This was my first solo project in my internship and it was a great success! My client was very happy with the turn out and with all the little finishing touches I provided in the preparations for the event.

There were more people than anticipated which was fantastic! The gallery was full and the atmosphere was great! There was plenty of food and drink to go around and everyone was providing a gold coin donation with their drinks.

I feel very pleased with my efforts for this event and am looking forward to the next event I have the privilege of being involved with.

Over the past few days proceedings for the booth and London exhibition are well under way. We met with our client on Monday to present our booth design options and settled on two out of four. However, the following day the concept was completely changed again. A new design was created yesterday (Wednesday) and sent through to the client.

We are awaiting approval from the said company’s external affairs department on the new design before we can go ahead with polishing the design and presenting collateral ideas. Because we are under a strict time budget we are unable to have marketing merchandise but we will have creative brochures and a slot card tower (as seen below) that will present quick facts and messages about Australia and the company. This is a simple tool that is relevant to the target audience.

We have also completed the final draft for the brochure which we have presented to the client and are awaiting feedback. Once approval for the booth theme and design has come through from external affairs we will be able to custom make a brochure for the expo. The designers have been instructed to create something other than an A4 brochure; something creative and interesting.

It has been interesting being involved in the design process for this project. Seeing how different companies operate and the guidelines that they are required to follow in making decisions in regards to campaigns. Especially being in the resource industry, our clients are generally required to adhere to strict guidelines and choose campaign themes and designs that are conservative and to not compromise the brand.

For example, my concept idea for the theme and brochure design was of a super hero comic strip. This idea went down well with the company representative who loved the idea, however she would not even consider showing it to external affairs because it was too controversial!

I am thoroughly enjoying the diverse tasks in which I am subjected to everyday in my internship. I initially thought that event management would be something I would commit to however, communications consulting offers many diverse tasks and experiences everyday.
