What a challenging and yet amazing experience have I had at Workpower! From the very first nerve wrecking day, till finally letting my guard down to really embrace the organisation.
It sounds cliché to say that I’ve learnt so much in my past 6 weeks here, but honestly my view upon people with disabilities and mental illness has completely changed. I’ve never been in this environment before and it was quite confronting at first. I didn’t really know how to respond to some of the circumstances, yet I held a professional manner and outlook throughout the whole journey.
During the internal communication interviews I met many interesting individuals, each with very distinct personalities. From the last 3 years in PR, I learnt how to respond during a crisis and this included to always be honest, respond quickly and to have a credible answer. A few of the employees had quite strong criticisms with the company’s current internal communication system , however I made sure that I was calm, smiled and gave the correct answers ( given to me by Jools, Marketing Manager).
Inspirational moments...
I definitely met some beautiful people along the way, one person i'd like to recognise in particular was Justin. He worked at the Bibra Lake QualipacPlus division of Workpower and had the most positive outlook, such dedication to his role and just the kindest heart. Besides his clear commitment to the company ( being a representative in his division), he answered all my questions so politely and told me some of the things he had achieved whilst being with the company. He really conveyed to me what this company enabled people with disabilities to accomplish. Justin perseverance and strong will, really made me think about my own career and the doubts I had in my own life. I’ve always had insecurities of being able to make it in the PR Industry, as it is such a competitive field. Yet Justin did not have any fear and did not let anything hold him back, which I truly admired.
The internship challenged my sense of direction in terms of my driving capabilities and allowed me to face my fear of getting lost in the north side of Perth. At least now if someone asked me how to get to Malaga, I’d have no problem in finding my way.
I’d like to personally thank the CEO Shane O’Conner, Executive General Manager Lee Broomhall and Marketing Manager Julia Dalby for such a rewarding experience. Thank you for your guidance throughout this journey and to further assist my skills not only in the PR field, but for life experience.

Wow!!! This shows that this internship was truly an eye-opener as you were able to learn many important life skills from your immediate colleagues which is good and interesting
Hi Amira,
It was so lovely to hear about your experiences and I have been avidly following your posts.
I remember learning about internal relationships and communication in a company being a crucial aspect for long-term productivity and employee satisfaction. In PR Corporate, our lecturer gave us an example of how Richard Branson values employee satisfaction as the foundation of his business' success.
The experiences you have acquired are so valuable and I wish you all the best in all your future endeavours! It was so insightful to follow your posts.
All the best,
Evelyn
