Name: Boikanyo Dudu William
Campus: LUCT

Hello everyone, I started my internship on the 16th of January and finding placement was not an easy task. I struggled going from office to office dropping off my applications in one of the country's big companies trying to find a place where I will be able to learn a lot about the public relations industry. Finally my prayers were answered as I was called in for an interview and then later got placed in the Ministry of Finance and Development Botswana public relations office. My first week at the ministry was all good, I was given the week to try and familiarize my self with the PR work and started with doing the media monitoring which I enjoyed because I got to read newspapers for free and also listen to the radio which is one of my favourite things to do.

Ministry of Finance and Development Botswana is a government agency that manages the economic and financial resources of Botswana, I felt very blessed to be working for an organisation that really makes a difference in the country and I was happy to realize that I was part of something so important.

At the time of my placement the ministry was busy as the annual nation's budget was to be delivered on the 1st of February therefore it was a busy period for the public relations office as media releases had to be done to notify the public about the event. I was very happy to be part of the team that handled this and i was enjoying each moment of it. It was great opportunity for me to experience actual PR work of the theory I learned in the past PR modules. Besides doing the actual PR work of helping out with the media releases, phone calls and dealing with the media I got the chance to meet with powerful people like the country's famous radio personalities.

My first week experience at the ministry's PR office made me more eager and interested in planning to be a PR practitioner as it was really fun and I believe that if one enjoys something they can easily excel in it.That is all I can say about my first week experience of placement.

Thank you for reading, until my next post
