Hello again
MEDIA LIST & DATABASE CREATION
My first task was
to create media-lists and update databases, which consist of contact details
for ABU members and media outlets. I used a Microsoft excels and at first I thought
this was just a piece of cake but trust me this was time consuming and nerve
wrecking. That painful moment thinking you are done and only to realize when
cross checking that you have inserted the wrong information at the wrong bar,
and that’ is when I had to cross check very carefully from the top page to the
bottom page and also checking if the information I have put in the excel sheet matches
with the ones in the members’ business cards.
I spent the 2nd
week of my placement creating and updating media lists and databases. Media
lists and databases are very important component of PR in an organization more
especially for the organizations like ABU, which
has many broadcasting members around Asia Pacific region and around the world
so doing this help the organization to have the correct, updated and latest
contact details of its members.
I
had to update this for every after two weeks and I really liked doing it even
though it was tiring but this pays since it makes everything much easier more
especially communication between organization and members and also media outlets
since we had their latest contact information.
I
would say this is the best thing I have learned during my internship, having
the correct information of your members and media outlets for future use it is
somehow a way to prove the relationship you have with them and also help the
organizations’ development and the way it operates. With an updated database
and media-list the organization will be able to run and monitor operational
activities and avoid any crisis as early as possible.

Its a good thing you learned something important and enjoyed yourself while at it.
Microsoft excel looks easy but it is stressful because you deal with numbers.But it looks like you coped well and learned something.
I must agree with Candy, using microsoft excel is stressful but it is always an added advantage if you know how to use that since mostly is used for databases n media lists like Onalenna had mentioned, and Onalenna you have learned the most important thing during your placement.
Mostly media lists and databases are used for future use and this makes communication much easier between organisation and the client, stakeholders or media.
