Marketing or PR?

Since I started my internship, I keep thinking about this question. Sometimes, I really think Marketing, PR and Advertisement should work together. Or I should say we can't work separate.

For our clients, they need to increase their revenues. Hence, what we are planning to do must help their sales increase. Maybe the result is not directly, but it does help. Unlike some world leading companies, the small financial organisations will not willing to do their pure public relations development. They do not have so much cash flow. They also they can increase their awareness during the plan period. But they prefer to earn more money in or after this plan. Then I also did many promotion events.

Because most of our clients are retails, so we put them into a group for some special event such as the Chrismas time. We chose one retail as the main store for that event, and other stores coordinated the event. All the stores become a shopping circle. I will attach the post of event in this blog.

Before I thought PR is not related to the sales, maybe yes. In the real world, it's difficult to tell. However, more and more organisations do their advertisement in PR ways. For example, the Bankwest and ANZ, I watched their video in Youtube website. It was not talking about marketing, however, it does for their marketing goals.

Now I believe, PR person and Marketing person could working together for our business goals. And usually, we can reached higher marks than we used to be. who told me that 1 + 1 > 2? So, that's it.

That's what I have leant by now.  And I will talk about my new tasks next time. What are you guys thinking about? Agree or disagree? I am more than happy to hear from you.

Hi Lillian! Your blog entry really got me excited to share my thoughts on it!

Yes, based on what I learned and experienced during my internship, Marketing, PR and advertisement are in fact linked to each other. The PR department in the company that I worked for is even placed under the Sales & Marketing department.

However, my internship has actually helped me to understand better on the difference between marketing and pr. The marketing department is responsible of marketing activities such as dealing with customers and making sure the company generates value in return so that revenue meets the budget. In short, it is more to providing services to customers.

A pr practitioner however is responsible of building and managing the resort's reputation and providing free media exposure. But undeniably, their goals are the same, so they cannot work separately, like mentioned by you in your blog entry. :)

Thx Lynette. I feel so happy to hear from you! And thx for you comment. :)

Now I feel more comfortable about this question as well. I think in the future the line between PR and Marketing will become blurring. Cuz PR place effective in a successful Marketing Campaign. But both of PR and Marketing are interesting.

But I do agree with what you expained regarding for the Marketing department. They focus on the sales result more. But they need PR to gain good relationships with clients, customers, media, etc.

BTW, I dont mind to work with Marketing people or Advertising people. Hope you enjoy your placement :)
