PRACTICING CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

In public relations we are taught that it is important for every organization to practice corporate social responsibility that is the continuing commitment by business to behave ethically and contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the workforce and their families as well as of the local community and society at large.

C.S.R is a great way for an organization to promote its image as  it ensures that the organization is able to give back to the public and in the process creating and strengthening a relationship with the stakeholders.

During my internship i had the opportunity to take part in organizing a charity donation. The event was held at The Chateau’s Four Faced Buddha where Tan Sri Vincent awarded 10 different home care facilities with RM 15 000 each, the event was organized by Pr & Comms and it appeared in the local newspapers. 

It was both an honor and a privileged to have been breathing the same air with the company's  CEO Tan Sri Vincent who is a man well known for his philanthropist work, he has taken part in various community service works; he is also the man behind the Better Malaysia Foundation.

  

The organization was distributing a total of RM150 000 to ten charitable organizations in Malaysia, of the total amount   RM 56, 250.40 was Tan's personal contribution while the rest was collected by the Four Face Buddha Shrine through its donation box.

This was one of the greatest experience of  my life as i got the chance to present a drafted Media Release to my supervisor, it also gave me an exposure to how the media is handled in such events.

This experience proved to be vital because prior to the event we got the chance to prepare media invitations which was something i had never really done before so i got a chance to learn. Media invitation was an important tool for  the event because it was through the media that we may get our messages across and also because media invitation is a good way of promoting the image of an organization because we are able to invite numerous media who stand for different things, in that way we are able to reach out to the stakeholders through different forms of media. 

At the end of it all i learnt that it is very important to give to those less fortunate because there is not a greater feeling in the world than putting a smile on their faces..
