In more than a week's time, my internship in Miri Marriott Resort & Spa will be completed. Three months went passed in the blink of an eye. I gained plenty
of new knowledge that I have not learned in class before in the resort.
I came across various situations that I have never been in
before and learned how to overcome those obstacles. I discovered that in order
to be a good and successful public relations practitioner, good communication
skill is one of the most important criteria because we always have to
communicate with our clients and to deliver accurate messages to our target
audiences. Every word we say can affect the reputation of our company greatly,
be it good or bad. Another crucial criteria is proper time management because a
public relations practitioner is responsible of planning and organizing events
and we need to make sure that everything progresses according to the specific
time frame set by us.
My experience has definitely
helped me to be more open and improve my communication skill to communicate
better with people. I was advised to always ask whenever in doubts so I was never afraid to ask
questions as I wanted to learn and do things right. Other than that, the feeling of belonging to a team and
working on exciting projects is an excellent feeling and when an event was a success was truly a wonderful experience.
I also managed to learn about how the resort functions as well as the
complicated nature of the hospitality industry. My perspective on
the hospitality industry has definitely changed since I worked in the resort. It is a lot more complex from
what meets the eyes and tons of work is put into organizing an event which will
set the resort apart from the other hotels.
That is all for now. Hope all of you are doing well and enjoying your internship! :) x
