Imagine, the experience

Introduce thyself!! (with a smile, of course)

:) Tasneem, 22 year old student completing final semester of three years' long studies at Charles Telfair Institute (Mauritius). What do I study? Mass Communication.

This last semester is a very hectic but nonetheless very interesting interesting time. Public Relations 393 offered by Curtin University wants its students to experience the Public Relations world first hand. In order to do so, Curtin University motivates its students to complete a 20 days' internship in a PR firm and conduct PR activities.

I headed to...

Imagine Communication found in the busy city of Port Louis has been ever so kind to have me on board for those 20 days.

Imagine Communication has been active and present not only in Mauritius since 1991 but also in the Indian Ocean region. Imagine Communication has an efficient network that extends to Madagascar, La Reunion and the Seychelles amongst others.

All that in a week? Yes we can!

So my first week at Imagine Communication has been fulfilling, exciting and busy. Imagine was a proud participator in Odysseus' first edition of the Salon de la Communication this last Thursday 26th and Friday 27th July 2012. The event that took place at the Swami Vivekananda International Conference Center in Pailles was a great occasion for me to enter  Mauritius' communication, advertising and Public Relations world. Indeed, the presence of other participants in the event put together a huge puzzle; I got to meet and talk to many other participants and know more about their firms and role in the communication field.

During the event, I was to welcome clients, potential clients and anyone who was peeping into our stand. Listening to my colleagues talk about Imagine was a good training all on its own. I paid attention to the questions asked but paid even more attention to my colleagues' responses, body language and service.

The preparations before the event

Rome wasn't built in a day, and the same is applied to preparations for any important event, conference or exhibition.

Before the event I was asked to send invitations to Imagine's client list as well as assisting my colleague with the setting up of our booth that would be seen during the showcase. In order to have the best result possible for the booth, we required the help and services of graphic designers. Several meetings and phone calls were done in order to have the final result.

Although the showcase was only for two days, the preparations had to be closely supervised. Our aim was to really bring out Imagine's vision, mission, and identity.

Curtains!

The Salon de la Communication was a great success and our job was done. Well, nearly done... We had to make sure that all of Imagine's properties was safely brought back to the office. Briefing of the event was completed among colleagues and would then be reported back to the office on Monday.

End of first week at Imagine.

Glad to see you are enjoying your internship, Tasneem.
I like your point about the 'Salon de la Com’; it was indeed a wonderful opportunity which we had the chance to experience as students in the PR field.
Even I have been working for the 'Salon de la Com' and I can understand the huge work which we had to do before the D-day.
Keep updating us...
Best of luck!
