First of all, let me introduce my placement. LiveComm Solutions is a PR consultancy dealing with anything from pure PR to Business communication and Events management.
My first 10 days have passed now and i must say it has been an incredible if not hectic workload. During university, you get used to have a proper schedule: assignment 1 on week 3, assignment 2 on week 6, so on and so forth. However, it is a whole other matter when you get in the real world. One morning, a client can just ask to come up with a proposal the same afternoon (!) and you have to be able to deliver.
Time management is crucial in a consultancy and thankfully, you learn to cope with it during those 3 years of undergrad. All the more challenging when you have other modules and commitments elsewhere.
I am beyond excited to be able to be working on several big projects and having my opinions and ideas valued. For one of them in particular, i am looking forward to its launch because i came up with the name and 'gimmick' to hook the audience. After years of dummy PR plans, it is refreshing (& terrifying) to use what we have learned in-class and put it into practice.
Last thought before i leave you is how learning to be a people's person is pretty much hands-on. It is barely something you can learn in a classroom. So, practise, practise, practise.

I can tell that your placement is indeed educative as you are learning what it is like to be working in a real PR environment. Just to add on what you have said about time management, i think other than having other modules to cope with, for interns like us it is a big deal when we are allocated a particular work as we want to do it well. And once done, it's like a great sense of accomplishment.

Well pretty pretty busy out there...but really interesting.
Its true that PR is a fast paced business and very often we feel as if we’re doing ten things at once. but we cope...
That one thing that always tormented me at the beginning of my internship (i guess it the case for almost everyone), whether we'll be able to manage multiple tasks each day under strict deadlines and on top deliver PR results for clients despite classes & assignments.
But i guess we learn, from experiences, we adapt to situation and then its a must, kind of do or die thing. and then if you are valued for your work, its worth :)

Hey Yashni,
It is true that i did find myself doing less for uni than i used to i.e i used to make a chart with all the assignments & the deadlines but was not as organised for this particular semester. I totally agree with you about the allocation of work: there is a real drive to do it right.

thank you for your comment and your insight on your own placement.
It is the professional world so it is true that it is a "do or die" thing.
However, I do not want my life to resume itself to looking forward to weekends, there is an element of being "happy" in your job that makes a difference between dreading Mondays and being fine with them.
Guess attitude goes a long way.
