Even though P.R is fast
growing and more acknowledged, there is a shocking lack of job opportunities
for it resulting from lack of much need for it in most industries and the fact
that their job could very easy make or break an industry in the eyes of the
media not to mention the terrible economic situation that most countries are
undergoing. Sexist misconception. Just
like myself earlier most people view PR as a feminine occupation that involves
a lot of interactions with people who need to be distracted to get a point
through to them. Technology, media and
communication development. Every other year, a new form of technological device
that has a new and more complicated form of communication comes along, and at a
miss of a beat, the competition can get a lot more competitive through
knowledge of the current world. Cultural barriers. As
people from all over the world, with their various cultures, languages,
religions etc. are forced to interact, the lack of knowledge of these could
pose as a form of ignorance and may be a misconception and viewed as disrespect
or otherwise. As Public Relations grows so does the need for ethics and
cultural education. All round negative attitude
towards the industry. Just like lawyers Public Relations practitioners are viewed
as liars, seducers, manipulators etc. and even though segments of these are
partly true, its definitely a misconception to have that as a branding of the
occupation, just like there’s more to being a lawyer.
