The importance of speech writing and employee relations

Hey guys,

During the course of my placement i have realised how important PR 220, Media and all our other units in PR are so relevant in the real working world. The need to have good employee relations, especially in a not-for-profit sector, is crucial in keeping the company alive at any rate because we rely on volunteer workers to do the job.

In September we had a full staff meeting to reflect on the end of financial year and the year so far after the last issue of the Colosoul Magazine being printed out. Moreover it was a time for me to do my role as the Manager of the Business Hub to promote our division in the company which is still relatively new. I learnt the night before that i had to make a speech in front of the board of directors, in front of the ABN group CEO and in front of a Student Edge representative as well.

That was a daunting task however i reflected on my time in PR220 and how i was taught speech writing for different events and the style of writing. It was a blessing to me because i was a nervous wreck going into it however i realised we have all been prepared for this and should not be too scared to show off what we can do. It is so important to be able to write a good speech and grab a hold of your audience especially if there is a need to persuade.

Going back to what i said earlier about the need for good employee relations, Colosoul is still going through a transition period of staff leaving and moving offices and because i am in charge of the Business Hub and administration section, media releases or posters and social media is controlled by my area employees would have to sometimes play nice to get what they want. More importantly it is good to understand that good relationships with one another is very crucial to small businesses especially when relying on each other for the success of the company.

Thats all for now!
