Programmed Group Services

Hi there everyone in PR 393 Internship!

Looks like everyone is enjoying their internship placement this semester. I am currently doing an internship at Programmed Group Services in Perth WA. For those of you who are not in Perth or who have not heard about Programmed let me tell you briefly about the company and what it does.

Programmed is a provider of staffing, maintenance and project services. Programmed's business model is built around their abilitiy to recruit, maintain and deploy a skilled workforce. Programmed directly employs more than 10,000 skilled and semi-skilled staff and tradespoeple across a broad range of government and private sector industries in the resources, infastructure, education, manufacturing, logistics, commercial retail and tourish and recreatio markets. Programmed provide services to over 7,000 customers with which they have developed long term relationships. Programmed deliever these services through their extensive network of over 100 brance and office locations throughout Australia and New Zealand.

I was so excited to start on my  internship at Programmed, for the first time working in a big well known company and learning how PR is used in the corporate side of the company. On my first day of my internship I was shown around the 3 story office in Burswood and I was allocated my own desk, drawer with every stationary I could possibly need and I even had emails set up for me as a Student Communication Officer. I was straight put on PR duty! I had to go upstairs and help Rachael who is our Communications Officer with the photoshoot she was doing with the Managing Director. I had to help the photographer pack his stuff up and put it in his car. The not so glamourous side of PR definitely! After helping Programmed's photogrpaher Chris I had to go to my desk and read the Intranet with all the stories that was written and have a read about it. I had to take down notes about what was going on in the office and the latest news! In PR its not about just networking with people in your communications division we all still need to communicate with other colleague in other division. The communications department in Programmed work closely with the IT department as they help us with all the graphics and programming of the content of the Intranet. Programmed values and Fremantle Dockers are in line and therefore thats why they are one of the main sponsors of the Dockers so later during the day I had to help with the Dockers sponsorship putting all the Dockers scarf in a goodie bag to be given to the Managers and Managing Directors when they attend the Fremantle Vs West Coast Eagle Match. Towards the end of the day, we had a communication meeting and I had to help my Supervisor Kate with the Purple Zone. The PZ is an interacting website Programmed has created for their employees, where they can enter competitions to win Dockers and Melbourne Storm home and away games for FREE and also win their merchandise! Its pretty amazing having to work with the Dockers and Storm sponsorships. Because Programmed is one of the main sponsors for Dockers, they are entitled to have 10 'player appearances'  through out the year. In a few weeks time on the 6 of May there is a 'Footy Clinic' event where Programmed sponsors the player appearances within the community, is to give something back to the community as well. I do not know much detail about it yet but when I do I will update you guys about it! I can't wait to see Matthew Pavilich thou :) That pretty much summed up the first 2 days of my internships. I will update more within the weeks to let you guys know more about PR in Programmed.
