Facebook as a medium.
As we step into a digital world, public relations has no doubt moved into the World of the SNS. As i Embark on this exciting I cannot help but think about facebook as a medium
Social Network Sites, such as twitter, Youtube and Facebook
are seen as to be able to bring real changes socially and politically. boyd and
Ellison (2007) argues that SNSs are mainly organized around people and not
interest. This theory has been proven not true in the case of the stop 2012
campaign and the 2008 Obama presidential campaign which both smartly used the
social networking sites to gain a global recognition towards their ideals and
campaigns. This hinges on the power of social networking sites that has made a
great influence in the world, which allows connectivity to family, friends,
strangers, businesses and a lot more. Different social networks sites make
different impacts in the ‘real world’.
Facebook being initially designed to connect student’s distinct
colleges, facebook has now expanded its connectivity to everyone around the
world. This allowed its popularity to grow globally; as of March 2012 there are
more than 500 million users worldwide.
With the technological advances of the modern era, Facebook
as evolved into a broader medium, which started to draw people of all ages,
cultures. It also has put aside a plan to constantly redevelop itself to create
a more enjoyable experience for its users. Facebook’s new update pages allow
users to stay connected to their interest just by liking adding a page to their
interest page. It allows its user to fill connected to their interest with the
streams of information given to them by the administrators of those pages that
they have liked. Helmond (2007) points out that the home page in Facebook
collects news feeds from eaht user’s friends, interest pages fan pages so when
you log in to Facebook you will see updated information. The comments box allows
feedback that encourages interaction between users to users and users to admin.
