The first day at work is always the craziest with so many things racing through my mind. That morning I was having all sorts of thoughts. It’s my first internship. I’ve never been in a company before. And, what’s even more daunting is that I was there first before anybody else.
But, it didn’t turn out as bad as it would. The morning went by quietly. I was brought up to the office. I was told to wait for my colleague. Later, I was introduced to the team and the other staff in the office. The office looks very cool with those big windows that you see in the movies.
Soon after, I was summoned to the meeting room. There my supervisor sat waiting for me. I took a seat and held my breath. I loosen up a little, after we have talked for a while. I was given the internship placement to read through. And, discussed over any concerns that I may have.
In the agreement, there were outlines of some of the company’s policies that are to be followed. As well as, the terms of the student internship and the duration that is set for my employment here. The letter is about 3 pages long. But, on the bright side.. I get to have the weekends off.
Then, before you know it’s already lunch time. We went down in a group to the nearby food court to get something to eat. I got to know that the people here are a very sarcastic bunch of people. The boss was even there too, so I was kind of lucky to be having a meal with him.
Communication is the very first thing in public relations. It was also my first assignment that was given to me. It is important to build relationships with the people that you are working close with. the opportunity gave me a chance to understand how the company works.
Later on, I was taught to monitor the the news in the vast media network. I was told that it will be my daily task to go through the local newspapers and magazines. In the weeks to come, I will be given more responsibility. There was a slight learning curve, but I managed.
At the end of the day, my colleague was kind enough to drop me back home on my first day. I was still a little blur on getting myself around. But, I am pretty much grateful for his kindness. When I got home, it was already quite late at night.
There is still one very interesting thing, that I’ve learned about the company. I have to say that I consider myself lucky to be able to get an internship at such a prestigious company. They have a large number of clients ranging from all sorts of industry.
I really love my first day. I suppose that its the first best job that I’ve ever had. I am sure to learn a lot from working here.. I hope that in the days to come, I can have an even better experience. Anyways, for now. Goodbye.
