I am currently working with a company with several 'sub-companies', many of which are in need of the very basic public relations tools to keep them in the game. The sub-company that much of the PR focus will be centred on is 'Poivre d'Or'.
Poivre d'Or, is a medium sized company specializing in 100% natural and 100% authentic foodstuffs, such as, jams, honeys, sugar, preserves, tea and sugar. the company makes most of its business from hotels, restaurants and other food outlets.
its main focus and aim before the end of the year is to maximize awareness locally and internationally, and start exporting their goods to countries other than Seychelles, Germany and France that are becoming quite stagnant. in effort to do so this weekend (22nd, 23rd and 24th of August) the company is taking part in 'MAITEX' (Mauritius International Trade Expo). This expo was established to give medium size Mauritian enterprises a chance to interact with international buyers.
Thus, to capitalize from this opportunity, company's PR manger and I are in the process of developing a media kit to be distributed to the potential buyers both prior the show and after the show.

Hi Hugo!
It is good to read a bit from you! It is very interesting what you are actually doing. I didn’t expect that you were working for a company for spices. So how was your media kit? Was the campaign a success? I heard a lot about this expo taking place and am sure by participating to this exhibition the company obtained a lot of awareness. I remember participating to an expo with you and how talking to people make you create a good network and it is also easier to create awareness about a company. By talking to people you understand more their needs and expectation which help you for your publics.
I also worked on a media kit this weekend (for a voluntary work apart of my internship) and I had to write a media release about a championship that will take place in Mauritius this week and it was very interesting. I had basic information and had to make a lot of research but most importantly I had to know my publics. I suppose you had to do the same.
It is a great idea from you to offer a media kit during the expo as people could learn more about your business as sometimes a conversation is not enough. The media kit was a chance for your company to give to the media contacts everything you want them to know about your company or the work you are doing and also provide them with the different tools they will need to write a story after the expo for instance. By having this they don't have to make a research about you which save their own time and I am sure they did appreciate it. A media kit normally contains things such as a media release with a newsworthy article about the company, a fact sheet or backgrounder with more information about the article and the company and then you can include more things such as some media coverage or even pictures that are important. Sometimes you can give a little gift all depends on your company. I wonder what your media kit contained. I am sure it was really creative and hope you will put some pictures for us soon!
Have fun in your internship!
