Education vs. Working experience. Why is it so important?

Hi again!
In this post, I would like to share about the experience of me working together with my supervisor, Esther and the 2 interns colleagues, assisted in drafting and helping out to plan for the upcoming event, Tenby International School Open Day 2013. It was on Tuesday 27th August, a week before the school officially get started. Our target audiences for Tenby Open Day are the existing parents, new parents and also the middle and upper classes family among local community.
In the preparation for the Tenby International School Open Day 2013, I was given several tasks by Esther to work on with my interns colleagues for the open day event. My colleagues and I were participated to discuss and come out with ideas and to be proposed for the Open Day event. Therefore, three of us were given different role to work on different tasks.
I was assigned to design a new leaflet and I got it done by using Publisher and Photoshop. It is something similar to what I have done in the unit of Public Relation 220 Techniques from the assignments which I have learned to design newsletter, website homepage and E-newsletter. Besides, we have discussed and decided to come out with a PR event plan, including event plan, checklist, running sheet and running schedule. All of these are nothing new to me anymore. I have learned all of these previously in PR 220 Techniques and 250 Media units which are pretty useful to us, for example preparing media kits for journalists.
With all these precious experiences that I have gained at work, I could even feel this is how I will be working in real life in future. We do made mistakes while working on the tasks. In fact, we are willing to learn from each other to make ourselves improve for the better one in future. We are working as a team under the supervision of Esther.
 Public Relations lesson #1: Communication!

Throughout this working experience, I have learned to interact and communicate well with the people and staffs. Communication is always very crucial. Without good communication and teamwork, we could not have got this whole event plan done within these two weeks. Lastly, I hope to improve my communication skills and time management from gaining the experiences in the past.
I am very grateful to have such helpful staffs and colleagues in the department who are always there to assist me, and most of all, willing to teach me, so that I have managed completing all the tasks in time.
Next, I will be blogging about Tenby International School Open Day (27th August 2013), from an intern’s perspective.
Take care and I hope you do enjoy your internship too!
