"Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction". - John F. Kennedy

Since my last blog post, things at my company are really starting to pan out. with the new era of social media, internet and increasing technological advances Poivre d'Or is suffering from a lack of public awareness.

In an effort to combat this issue Poivre d'Or took part in the 2nd edition of MAITEX (Mauritius International Trade Expo). MAITEX, proved to beneficial for the company as numerous contacts were made and efforts to build a relationship will be made in the future.

Pre-MAITEX was rather busy. Preparation tasks included

  • Preparing introductory letters to be handed out to potential buyers, to get an idea of the purpose and services of the company.
  • Preparing of catalogues and price list to consult customers who were interested in buying or ordering products
  • Assembling products, banners, advertisement materials to be taken and displayed at the expo
During the expo it was quite interesting for me to communicate with people from other countries, in turn Poivre d'Or accumulated a respectable amount of contacts with which they plan or commencing a mailing campaign. The mailing campaign will be discussed more at a later stage.

Post-MAITEX, the task at hand is compile a mailing list of clients that visited the stand to then be able to commence the mailing campaign.

As mentioned before Poivre d'Or is falling behind in terms of public awareness and is trying to make up for lost time by starting to undertake some PR intiatives on top of what i already recommended.

So basically, in order to move forward what are some intiavtives you guys can come up with, for a company that has none?

Hi Hugo!
Yesterday while reading some articles i found two very interesting ones that i think can help you a lot of social awareness of your company. One article talk about the the link of PR and Social Media and how we can confuse PR and advertising. I found this article quite good because it is true we often say that in an effort to create awareness we need social media but at the same time it is pure advertising. What do you think? It is said in the article that all depends on your goal. If you are using social media to increase your sales for instance it means that you are using the social media for marketing. However if u will use it to create a buzz or even to share conversation then it is PR. Honestly i think that i was doing wrong all that time. During 3 years am doing PR i always said yes ill use social media to increase awareness but never realized that sometimes what i was proposing was just marketing ideas and am sure you have made the mistake too. The second article is also very good. It explain that yes social media is a strategy however you also need to have tactics for it. We as future practitioners need to have like a plan of what we will put on the page. Which message for instance we want to pass to our public. The article i am sure will be a great help for you who want to use the social media to increase the awareness of the company. We need to admit that nowadays social media is part of our life and we really need it. For instance now when we want to look for a company we always look for it on Facebook as here in Mauritius Twitter is not so much use.
Read the articles and let me know if it helped you.
I also saw that you are going to do the mailing campaign. At my company we also did it during my first week. I found it boring at the beginning but then i understood how important it is even if its time consuming at first to make the list. The mailing list help the company to reach directly its public. When we did it we got positive response from the public and this is good for your company. It will be able not only market its products but also build a network. You will be able to know directly if your campaign was a success.
So here are the different links!
