First four days in working world......!!!! (C.T.I)

I am actually working in a company which is in charge of the food services industry and they provide food to different airlines including Air Mauritius. Actually during my interview, I was told that they do not have a PR Department here but it is up to the HR Department to deal with the different purposes with communications. I was a little bit stressed as it was my first internship/job. I am actually working on document filing and I have been told that I will be part of a function which will be held later on during my internship. Thank to this module which actually give me the chance to know how to organise an interview as well as developing my skills.

Amazing how some companies still don't have a PR department! I think companies are increasingly starting to notice the importance of PR. What a great challenge for you and really good experience for you to be able to start from fresh in that department and start to apply what you've learnt! Will also be a great opportunity for the company to see the importance of PR and the possibilities it could have for the company! Good luck!

Indeed, Danni is right.. Companies do not realise the importance of having a real and proper PR department integrated in their day to day activities. It is the case specially here in Mauritius, where apart from PR professionals, people still think that PR forms part of marketing and no specific skills are needed.. How wrong are they! so many things we learnt during our studies show the contrary and how much our writing skills are usefull to us during our internship. Hoping that things will change around here, or we might not have a lot of job opportunities when we finish with curtin..

Coincidentally, i can relate to your situation Antish, when i started my internship at my company, they, too, did not have PR department, and i have been involved with the implementation of one. That being said i would like to add that it does not happen overnight, that's for sure. which i why i do agree with both Danni and Kimberley, that having a dedicated PR department plays an increasingly bigger role in the success of a company. on the other hand, im almost positive our modules and the practices we have learnt will come in handy over the duration of our internship. good luck
