Our event considered one of the best!

Hi All..

My internship is reaching an end soon and so far it has been an interesting experience, and much has been learned as for how it really works in real life, and not behind our books.

Last week I assisted my boss on the launching of a new professional coffee machine from Nespresso. The basis of these events for a PR officer is to make sure that journalists are coming, and that once they are here, they are greeted and that they feel they are recognised. From my point of view, it seems like they are children seeking attention, and if they don't get it, the coverage in the media might not be good at all. So better treat them VERY well.
The role my company played in this launch had to do with every little details, even flowers! Everything had to be checked and rechecked to be sure everything was where it should be. And then the event started. I was asked to take the captions for the photographs that were being taken so that the proper names and titles of guests were put in the media. We don't want any complaint once the pictures are published!
I had feedback from my boss, and she told me the event was a big success, that the Nespresso people from Mauritius were very satisfied with the outcomes, and the representative of Nespresso from Dubai said it was the best launch he assisted from the various countries where he went to reveal the new machine.. That sure makes us feel like our work was appreciated, and it gives a boost for the future for sure..
Overall I like going to events managed by my company, it is an interesting side of PR, i'm sure i'd rather work in that field than any other from PR.. hehe..

Talk soon guys,

That sounds really amazing! My first day at my internship was actually one of my company's (Momentum Forum Events) main events for the year which was really exciting also. It was, being my first day on the job, very overwhelming and daunting and I spent a lot of the day feeling like I was treading water. It was also hard working on an event that you have not helped organize. I am now towards the end of my placement and I will be helping out at the companies biggest event of the year: The Pink Ribbon Ball, in which I have been for the last couple of months, working on the set up of the event - which I find just as exciting. I definitely agree with you that this part of PR is very exciting. I especially thought the bit about your experience with the journalists was interesting, as I haven't dealt with them at my placement much, yet, maybe I will have a similar story to tell after the ball :)

congrats, im sure you must be proud knowing that you were part of that event. but your take on the journalist was rather amusing. but its interesting to understand how they function. its almost as if they have to be praised and pampered in order for them to write something positive, which, in my point of view is wrong, they have job to do and they should do it in an unbiased manner, but i suppose giving sweets to children has never harmed anyone.
