Finally it came down to the big day, the one I have been
working so hard for. The World First Aid Day 2013. The event went by rather smoothly
apart from a few small hiccups here and there that I feel most events would
probably face.
On the very morning, I helped out with the final set up and
briefed the Secretary General, Mr Benjamin William on the final run down of the
event. We were expecting invited guests to arrive at 9.00am, and our Guest of
Honour, Associate Professor Fatimah Lateef to come at 9.15am. However, she
arrived much earlier than expected, arriving 10 minutes before 9.00am.
Thankfully, most of the guests had already arrived. And so, the event
celebration commenced at 9.00am sharp.
I was rather nervous as this was my first time being an
emcee for an event and having important guests, just made it a lot more nerve
wrecking for me. Thankfully after the first 10 minutes into the celebration, I
managed to calm down a little and everything went rather smoothly.
Greeting our Guest of Honour
Channel News Asia sent a small crew to film the event which
was to be aired that very night. The radio station Warna 98.2fm also called up
for an interview. We were rather worried that we would not be able to get any
coverage on the event, even more so when we were launching our new course as no
TV or radio station could confirm their attendance until just the evening
before the event.
Once the launch was over, and the tea reception was over,
the Guest of Honour and the Vice Chairman of Singapore Red Cross, Mr Axel Chan
came over and had a few words with me. They asked me about my internship
experience and the experience I had putting together this event.

I have to say it was a great experience for me and was very
excited when my boss Eileen spoke to me about an opening to work in Red Cross
doing similar work to what I was doing during my internship. My colleagues were
great and really pleasant and I am really looking forward to joining them
again. Red Cross has given me the flexibility to complete my last semester in
Curtin as well as to work with them.
