Internship week 1

Hi all.

This is my first post for our PR393 blog. Started my internship on the 23rd September at Pustaka Miri (government library) and finally, now, have the time to write blog.

To wrap up my first week of internship, so far so good (praise to God). First day or working, I was given my very own Pustaka intern access card. Feel so excited because even though it is just an access card, but you know, you get the "aura", as for me, it is the vibe of being a part of Pustaka's family. The people here are very friendly. I was given a short tour in Pustaka by one of the staff. At first, it was a bit confusing but after the tour, had the time and the regional manager allow me to explore, (as my supervisor wasn't around) so I toured the library by myself to get myself familiar with the building.

My first assignment was writing a press release for an exhibition. The challenge that I have to face was to write the press release in two languages, Malay and English. For your information, Malay language is the national language in Malaysia. So, for me, being fully English educated has its own drawbacks. I was given 3 hours to do it til lunch break, so without wasting any time, put my mind to paper, practice the 4W1H and ways of writing press release (date, day, place) and its done !  The exhibition is about the collection of crystals and rare things by Mr. Lucas Johnny. Bless to God, my press release was featured in Sarawak Tribune. My supervisor did gave me a copy of it but unfortunately, I left my internship file in the office, so, I will post it in my next post.

These are few pictures of the exhibition that I took the other day.

Unique stones.
Rare collection and crystals.
Mr. Lucas Johnny explaining on how to use one of the crystal stone to the visitors.

Doing internship in Pustaka is actually a privilege. Why ? - because other than getting information out of this internship, but also, gaining more other information which are not related to internship. Example, on the first week, I was asked to assist for registration of basic first aid technique talk. So, now, I have one knowledge about CPR and other more basic first aid techniques.

Thats all for my first week of internship. Stay positive ! Til  next time. Take care.

That sounds like a very exciting first week! It is particularly hard to achieve high in writing when you are under time pressure, but it seems like you have done extremely well! Writing a press release seems like one of the most important skills we have learnt in this degree so far as far as my internships have taught me. It seems like you are very talented and I am pleased to see that you have used your multi language speaking abilities to your advantage! Writing is a developing skill and I predict that we will continue to improve in press releases with more experience.
