My last mission
at AdvantEdge was the most stimulating factor during the course of my
internship. I had the opportunity to work on a book project and what motivated
me was that everyone at work worked as a whole team. I was assigned various
tasks and the first one consisted to review some documents and extract
information based on some themes that I was given. The work had to be accurate
and precise. It was whole like an assignment at university and it helped me
learn how important you have to double check your information when doing
research, especially in our domain, so as not to lose credibility. I was also
assigned to extract numbers and tables from various documents and ended up
doing nearly 20 graphs which would be included in the book. Even when doing
that, I had to double check my information so as to provide a professional
work. I should admit that going through these documents was not a big fun
because it was time consuming but I had to do so to produce my piece of work.
This is when I learned
that things do not always go as you which in work but it is your responsibility
to adapt to work. You have to be very organized to meet deadlines and verify
your syntax, just like we learned at university and I think that’s the basic
similarity of theory and practice in work. You always have to develop on that
yourself through research and observation, which only you can do to progress.
What I can
assure you through is that the feeling of the final product is really worth it
and if you are able to develop your skills through a process like this, you’ve
grown a lot, not just professionally but also on the human ground. I learned
that each task is a new learning process and it a challenge for yourself to
develop and build on that.

Thank you for sharing your insight into book review and data merging, Beatrice.
This project that you describe sounds pretty “full-on”, to put together a book based on accurate data in a team of people is definitely a good way to be involved in the workplace you are interning at.
Did you feel like an equal member of the team? Were you in a leadership role as the person providing graphical data and checking information?
Also what were the themes you were sorting? It certainly sounds like you were in a data merging process using multiple documents to create a primary guide.
I have also found that the PR techniques learnt at university are a good basis for entry into the industry but nothing beats the ability to adapt and thrive in a team environment.
Thank you for posting a very informative blog,

that sounds like a good amount of responsibility and the book review, graph and data merging sounds like something different and interesting from a PR point of view. well done!
