Last and Memorable Project

Every weekend, Pustaka will hold activities especially for the kids to fill up their times on the weekend. I was given the opportunity to do one activity for the children in Pustaka Children’s Infotheque.

On the 20th October, my colleague, Ms. Dorithy (from Library) and I, we had a combine activities which is the Flower Painting (arrange by Dorithy) and Flower Spelling Contest (arrange by me). We had this activity prepared less than 2 weeks before the event. Before the real event, my colleague and I, had consulted our senior colleagues and seek for their advice. Even though with limited time, my colleague and I, we manage to pull through.

For my colleague's session, she had to materials for painting and as for my session, I had to prepare the name of the flowers and classified the names under three categories; easy, medium and difficult level.

My supervisor asked me to prepare the flyers of the event.

The objective of having flower spelling contest is to;
1) To expose children of the flowers that exists in the world
2) Familiar with the common name of the flowers
3) Meaning behind the flowers as flowers play important role in making the life of a human being more cheerful and happy. Also, people use flowers in several forms and on several occasions such as for birthdays, valentine, weddings and funerals.

Very curious children. Click here for more pictures of the spelling contest.

The children are very active and enjoy both activities so much that they want us to do again in the next session.

However, there are few things that can be improved. Personally for me, I could have prepared more simple and easy flower names because during the event, the children face difficulties in easy level when they are asked to spell “Daisy”. From here, I learned that even though for us, adults, the words are too easy for us, but for the children, clearly, it is not that easy. Other than that, I should have promoted this event one week earlier to gain more participants for both activities. However, given limited time, that was all I was able to do.
