Hectic Social Media

Hello readers,

This is my third post so far and I am logging in my updates with the social media section of the company I am assigned to. These past weeks I have been helping with press releases on the events and issues going on surrounding the organisation. I have been given tasks to take pictures and post them on the social platform 'Instagram' under the name @AITI_Brunei (If you'd like to check it out).

The idea of this platform is to help publicize and show the public what is going on with AITI externally. So far I have helped covered the I.T workshops. There are few more events I will have to cover while I am here such as the 'Blood Donation Event' and the 'Media Appreciation Night'.

On other things I have worked on is editing posters for TVRO issues from the public. Examples of the issues are what licenses to pay on technology( i.e satellites, phones, cameras and many more), when they need to pay them, where to download forms and why they need to pay. I had to translate a full English version into a Malay one which was a bit tricky for me as I am not so good with my formal native language. I have also help give input on a TVRO advertisement that will be shown at the arrivals area at our International airport similar to the one shown at the Perth International airport arrivals. The TVRO advertisement is silent and shows only graphics and kinetic typography of what are recognized to be brought into the country.

So far, I am having a lot of fun at this organisation even though it is a lot of hard work. The workload here is crazy as the individuals here are very work oriented and usually works extra hours. I hope to continue my internship here after I finish my degree because the I.T industry appeals quite nicely for me.

Okay so until my next post.

See ya. Thanks for reading.

Hello, Emy,

I was really inspired about reading your post. You are really lucky for working in such a environment, where work is everywhere. I have already finished my internship. I follow the same as yours, but in Mauritius at the Charles Telfair Campus. I would really appreciate doing such works if ever my company was overload with work, it would be really motivating to run around and never get bored. Unfortunately, after some time, my motivation started to drop and the only thing i wanted was to finish my internship. Working in a small company with very little staff is not motivating. But, you know, when i first started to work, i was so happy and impatient to start. I hope things continue in that path for you.

Good Luck,

Angie

Hey Emy,

I recently finished my internship and have also been working in a really fast-paced office! Although I get home exhausted, I find the job satisfying as I'm never watching the clock waiting for the hours to pass. I find it's always helpful to look at the positives!

I would have liked the opportunity to work on social media a little more. I think ideally I would like to run the Facebook/Instagram/Twitter accounts for an agency and/or their clients, as I enjoy trying to think up creative ways to get the general population's attention, and I also really enjoy interacting with all sorts of people. Did you find that role fun? What aspects did you find difficult?

I hope the remainder of your internship goes well for you.

Best of luck,
Jessie x

Hi Emy,

Like you, I was also assigned to do social media updates during my internship. It’s both exciting and perplexing to post on the social media platforms since we have to be careful with the language we use; it’s definitely not the same language that you and I would have used if we were commenting on a friend’s profile!

I think it’s amazing that your organisation uses Instagram to share pictures to the public. Considering Instagram’s popularity today, it’s a shame that a lot of organisation/companies do not really value it as a vivacious social media platform. I was wondering if you came across a particular crisis situation while doing social media updates, such as dealing with negative comments etc.

I was also assigned to do some translations and I completely back you up when you say that it is one tricky thing to do! We may work from different continents but our experiences are quite alike. :) I hope you have learnt a lot from interning at AITI.

Best of luck for the future! Thanks for commenting on my blog.

Kind regards,

Kritina :)
