Coming up to the Wesfarmers Centenary
Community Concert (WCCC) there is a lot of travel to and from Northam for
briefings, meetings and packaging.
Having never attended an event briefing I
found it incredibly interesting to be able to be a part of the final team OHS
briefing that would take place two week prior to the event. This would be the last time the event team
and stakeholders would all meet with each other before the event actually commences.
The briefing covered any event site/road
closure changes that needed to be discussed and understood. But the main topic of the briefing was to
discuss emergency procedures should an unforeseeable accident happen.
The situations discussed where;

What to do if the stage catches
fire and there are casualties
·
What happens if there is a
major traffic accident along Great Eastern Highway
It was really good to see all the
stakeholders present at the one meeting and discuss any potential problems as
final site plans and workflows came into place.
I also attended a briefing that was
designed specifically for my work partner and I, which detailed our specific
areas of the venue and our roles and responsibilities as we oversee the
community artists and event, volunteer groups.
The biggest concern on the day of the event
will be the number of attendees and the management of lost children.
As the event is free, there is no way of
telling how many people are expected to attend, but we have planned to cater
for 5000, the worry is that there has not been enough publicity and so numbers
may dwindle.
In regards to lost children, we have a
standard operating procedure (SOP) to manage between spectator services,
ushers, security and those working within the lost children tent to ensure kids
are returned safely to their parents.
We’ve decided that the best way to handle
these situations is to provide wristbands to families and allow them to write
the parents name and mobile number for the children to wear. It is also important that there are minimal
personnel handling each lost child so not to confuse the situation.
Concert will be held on Saturday April 10, in Northam (Henry St Oval), looking forward to it!
