Hello people!
Today I'm going to write about what I have learned about product placement and how it is a PR strategy. Product placement is the way a product has been placed and where. It is very important that products are placed where the target audience will be reached. As an experiment, my supervisor asked me to go around and study the ways in which Black Energy drink was placed. I was working on a PR plan for that energy drink at that time. We were satisfied with the placement of the drink as it has been made visible to customers in every places where it is available.
The places where the product is made available is also very significant as different audiences are targeted according to the places. For instance, when being placed in supermarkets, it is targeting fans of energy drinks, people with a busy lifestyle, mostly adults. They are targeted here because they are the group of people who are more likely to go to supermarkets to do their shopping.
The product has been placed to target younger people in places where they are more likely to go and enjoy the drink on the spot. Examples here are: nightclubs around the island and a bowling club where the majority of people are young people.
The places were the product is available automatically give different ideas of how to consume it. When targeting adults in supermarkets, they will buy the product and drink it as it is. For them, it would be just an energy drink to help them get through a busy and tiring day.
However, it has been made more attractive when displayed for young people in the 2 different places mentioned above. There are sponsored refrigerators with the logo on them and with very appealing designs and colors. Being very much appealing visually, it is in a way more fun too. Barmen were seen demonstrating the different ways in which the drink can be mixed with other alcoholic beverages. Consequently, the attention of this target audience is grabbed.
From this experience I have learned the importance of placement of product. Product placement is a PR tactic that I will keep in mind now. I don't remember including that in any of my previous PR plans, I will now.
